Tattoo Design Selection
Therefore it is critical that you search your heart and soul for just the right Tattoo design. Be true to yourself, do not get something that you think others will like. After all you are the collector that will live with your decision for a life time. I know that when I got my first mark at just seventeen I got it for all the wrong reasons and picked the wrong design.
My first Tattoo was to impress my Dad and show him that I was now a man. He had over a dozen Tattoos so I thought by getting one myself he would respect me as a man. He took me to the local Tattoo shop and I looked through thousands of flash and I settled on what I thought was cool but not really giving it much thought if it matched my personality. After the artist had finished I complained that he had changed all the colors without asking me first and he just said he thought it looked better that way and I disagreed. My Dad told me it was to late now and maybe the next time I would not be such a baby and watch as it was being done and I could be sure I got what I wanted.
Well some thirty plus years later it had faded enough that I was able to use a world renowned artist to cover it with a bigger Tattoo more to my liking and more to my personality. However depending on how large you go with the original mark you may not be able to cover it later. Therefore unlike me back then, be sure the mark is exactly what you want. I now have a completely different out-look on the selection process.
Starting with my full back piece and continuing with my full frontal piece I have gone theme base. For example my back is done in exotic birds and tropical plants with bird of paradise flowers, while my full front panel is all Native American Heritage. All of which is not only Tattooed on my body but is also part of who I am inside my soul.
During your selection process also consider the style that you want to use as well. As an example my back piece is done in both Grayscale and Bold Bright Colors. This contrast in style was done to make the Birds and the Bird of Paradise Flowers stand out more to attract a viewers attention quickly. It also worked well in competition, taking a second place and third place finish, as well as finding its way into Tattoo Magazine in April 2001. The Native American Heritage of my front panel is done in all bold colors.
Have your Tattoo Design Selection mean something to you from deep in your heart and soul and you will always be happy with your choice. Going with trends or fads is a mistake since next week, next month, or next year the trend or fad will change but your mark is forever.
Though there really is only three types of Tattoo Designs there are many more styles of art to express those designs. The designs would be Flash Art, Custom Art, or a combination of the two. Both my front panel and full back piece are made up of a combination of Flash and Custom Art. Take your body art collection serious and be true to yourself. It really is no different than a person that collects Norman Rockwell paintings except that your collection is on your body and is yours for life.
In closing I can not repeat myself enough that your Tattoo Design Selection is most critical and of course be sure to select a reputable artist as well. It really does not matter whether you go with Flash Art, Custom Art, or a combination of both, nor does it matter what style of artistic expression you use as long as you are true to yourself and do not think about what others would like but just what expresses the real you in the art.
